    The ELM Project enhances the lives of underserved youth living with chronic illness by providing an enriching summer camp experience and the tools for a healthy, independent future.

    Camp AmeriKids Wellness Team Member (Formerly Counselor, Since 2011)
    Oversee 150 campers (ages 7-16) and 50 volunteers: implementing behavioral management systems, providing conflict resolution support, conducting volunteer empathy training, and ensuring individual camper and volunteer needs are met throughout the session.

    Produced two highly successful fundraisers, tripling attendance and doubling fundraising ($200K) and auction value ($50K). Oversaw 60 volunteers, vendors, and VIPs, including Board Members, donors, Philip Glass, and The National.

    30 hour de-escalation, empathy, active listening, collaborative problem-solving, cultural competence, and safety planning training. 100+ hours one-on-one crisis counseling via web platform.

    Fosterer and Adoption Coordinator
    Specialize in fostering cats with medical needs. Coordinate fosterers, transport, and adoptions. Help volunteers with foster transitions, aftercare, and compassion fatigue.

    Engage with community, document adoption events and take portraits of kitties in foster homes. Specializing in animals with sensitive temperaments.

    Assist veterinary staff with prepping tools fur surgery, organizing the care facility, learning protocols, and helping furbabies in and out of anesthesia. Coordinate with foster families, adopters, and Meow Parlour staff to facilitate smooth transitions, provide emotional support, and communicate medical needs, while streamlining documentation, and processes for efficiency.

    In Our Hearts is an action-oriented mutual aid group focused on facilitating collaboration among collectives, affinity groups, and projects. It coordinates larger-scale actions and projects while fostering spaces for social interaction and meaningful face-to-face conversations.

    Food Distribution Volunteer during COVID
    Every Saturday at 3pm in Von King Park, BedStuy IOH hosts a Food not Bombs Food Share, with groceries donated from local co-ops and other grocers and growers in the city. Food that would otherwise have gone to waste. We always welcome new volunteers with or without vehicles or cargo bike skills. In collaboration with: @communitysolidarity and @feedthepeople_bedstuy.

  • Talisman is a born empath and problem solver. Always quick to offer new out-of-the-box ideas, she particularly connects with our neurodivergent campers. She is grounded even when her brain is working at super speed to help find creative solutions. Talisman loves to selflessly collaborate to support a team in whatever way makes sense. She’s generous in receiving feedback and easy to communicate with, because she practices and appreciates clear and direct communication. Talisman is a Camp AmeriKids veteran and a vital part of our Wellness team!

  • Talisman is a life force. We have volunteered together for over a decade at a summer camp and I’ve always been impressed with her joyful enthusiasm to work wherever she’s needed. And then to do it well wherever she served! Most recently she’s been a member of our wellness team, under my supervision, serving the psychosocial needs of campers and counselors. Whether she’s working one-on-one with someone or contributing to daily team meetings, she is always very present, attentive to whomever she is with.
